Breast health is an area of concern for many women.
The federal BreastScreen program provides free bi-yearly screening mammograms for Australian women aged 50-69 and posts reminders. Eligible women can self refer to BreastScreen; they don’t need a GP referral. While screening mammograms are primarily recommended for women aged 50-69, women aged 40-49 are still at risk of breast cancer and are welcome to have a free breast screening mammogram with BreastScreen every two years. If you are unsure about your risk of breast cancer or whether breast screening mammograms should be a priority for you, why not discuss your risk with your GP to see if it’s right for you. If so, we’ll give you a 70% benefit on the cost of a screening mammogram not covered by BreastScreen.
It is important for all women to know the normal look and feel of their breasts. If you
notice any breast changes, nipple discharge or a lump; it is important that you visit your doctor as soon as possible.
To claim, just send a copy of the receipt for your screening mammogram, together with a completed claim form to Australian Unity.
