Bone Density Screening

Bone Density Screening

Osteoporosis or "brittle bone disease" is major cause of injury and disability in Australians.

The federal government funds a screening program for Australians aged 70 and over, where DEXA scans are available for free. However, evidence demonstrates that this is may be too late to pick up early onset osteoporosis, especially in women.

At your next check-up why not discuss your risk of osteoporosis with your GP to see if it’s right for you and if so, we’ll give you a 70% benefit of up to $70 on the cost of a DEXA scan.

To claim, just send a copy of the receipt for your DEXA scan, together with a completed claim form to Australian Unity.

  • 12 month waiting period
  • 70% benefit on the cost of a DEXA scan up to a maximum of $70, where no Medicare rebate is payable.
  • Benefit payable once every 5 years
  • No lifetime cap
  • Benefit available on Life Choice & Life Choice+ covers only.

Visit Osteoporosis Australia (osteoporosis.org.au) for more information on the detection and prevention of osteoporosis.
